Welcome to the world’s first Aktivhaus
Introducing Aktivhaus, a triple zero home that generates 200% energy. The design is based on spaces and shows how even the smallest of London sites could use this model. As the design is also stackable, in the future, it also could also apply to med-high rise developments.
Tailored comfort
Rory Bergin, Head of Sustainability & Innovation at HTA, the architecture firm commissioned by VELUX to design its CarbonLight Homes, explains how technology can be used to provide energy efficiency and comfort.
Green shroud
It is not everyday we see the surface area of a whole building covered with vegetation. For the parliament of the German Speaking Community in Eupen, they have put this into action on their new legislative building. FC&A explains more.
Making sense of buildings
Architects today are preoccupied with ‘green’ thinking, ‘eco’ design and carbon footprint. Fundamental to designing and realising all this, it is vital to have an understanding of what makes for a good performance, healthy and cost effective environment. Architect Christopher Sykes examines how our senses are influenced by what we perceive, what we see and what we hear.
Eco lodges are hot property
Two luxury eco holiday apartments on the west coast of Scotland are now benefitting from a sustainable, cost-effective and readily available supply of hot water and space heating – thanks to the installation of a brand new NIBE F2040 air source heat pump system.
Waterproofing a fountain
At the historic Hatfield House in Hertfordshire, Newton Waterproofing products have provided the solution to the waterproofing of a striking water sculpture. Newton 903-P was used to prime the base, then Newton 103-S membrane was spray applied. The solution was installed by Newton Specialist Basement Contractor Dry Waterproofing.
