Now in their 11th year and co-ordinated by leading business publisher Insider Media, the awards celebrate excellence from businesses across the Midlands region.
Tamlite’s approach to being a sustainable and ethical lighting manufacturer is two-fold: the products that are provided to customers; and the packaging and processes that are used to deliver them. At the core of its circular economy initiatives is Tamlite Environmental. It has implemented a number of strategies to enhance sustainability within its operations, including the process of removing all plastic bags from product packaging, whilst a project is also underway to ensure all new products are free of virgin plastics. The company is also working closely with its sister company Electrical Waste Recycling Group (EWRG – The Waste Experts) to offer an extensive luminaire, lamp, and electrical waste recycling service, which achieves 98% recovery rates through their processes.
In winning, the independent lighting manufacturer fought off stiff competition from seven other organisations, with judges saying: “This is a company which has fully embraced the circular economy and driven a change of culture throughout the business. It’s a great example to other manufacturers looking to go green.”
Commenting on the win, Managing Director John Allden said: “We are delighted to be recognised for our circular economy initiatives and are proud to be a showcase for what can be achieved in the Midlands. It is clear that manufacturers must play their part in ensuring the environment remains sustainable for future generations. Tamlite Environmental was born out of recognising the role we could play in achieving this. Although the initiatives we have introduced are in their infancy, the measure of its success will be realised by our clients and end users who will have dependable, sustainable lighting solutions long into the future.”
The win comes as it was announced Tamlite had been shortlisted for two further awards at the MRW National Recycling Awards – Partnership Excellence – Commercial and Circular Economy Initiative – in partnership with EWRG. The winners will be announced on December 8.
