Through the support and adaptability of our entire team at Waterloo, we have also been able to be involved in supplying rapid solutions to some construction projects that are directly involved in tacking COVID, such as the Nightingale Hospital on Jersey.
Providing products for the Nightingale Hospital Jersey project has allowed Waterloo to do what it does best - develop and manufacture innovative solutions that function effectively in a really tight time scale.
The Jersey Nightingale Hospital is an aluminium framed temporary building situated on a playing field. There will be enough space for six 30-bed wards and areas to admit and discharge patients alongside staff rest and changing facilities.
The size and utility of the building led to unconventional solutions being required. Rather than minimising the size of the air distribution products, the design spec called for the volume of the plenums to be expanded to ensure that pressure drops are kept low despite the large volume of air within the building, due to its hangar like proportions.
The top entry plenum boxes that have been used with Waterloo's SDVCA's Vane Swirl Diffusers, have been designed and manufactured at 730mm high, which is over twice the average height of plenums produced at Waterloo, but will ensure the right volume of air is fed into each area of the hospital.
Work began on the hospital on the 9th April and it is due to open this week, with energetic collaboration from all parties involved enabling an impressive lead time.
